What is integrative nutrition?
There was a point in my life when I looked at nutrition and healthy eating as something completely separate from what was going on in my life on an emotional level. No matter what, if I was eating “healthy” and exercising reasonably, I considered myself healthy. When I share what I do and how I do it with health seekers, most people don’t understand the term “Integrative nutrition.” Integrative Nutrition bridges the gap between emotional and nutritional wellness. Integrative nutrition helps my clients understand they can eat all the kale in the world and still be unhealthy.
Let’s be honest; how many of us have gone on countless diets and purchased a gym membership to find ourselves defeated, discontent, and avoiding the mirror? Looking at our physical selves from a result-driven perspective, we don’t always learn what needs to happen to get those results, and we ultimately fail ourselves and never build a trusting and sustainable relationship with, yes, ourselves. But when we create awareness around our needs, desires, goals, and potential obstacles, we understand ourselves more deeply. We slowly begin to connect the dots and become aware of the habits, lifestyles, and events that stop us from being the best version of ourselves.
Integrative nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It is a bio-individual practice that considers and analyzes each person's lifestyle on a nutritional, psychological, physiological, and environmental state. Integrative nutrition recognizes illness and disease as the outcomes of poor lifestyle habits. It honors the body’s innate ability to heal itself if given half the chance by regulating and rebalancing one from within.
So the next time you set specific goals for your physical appearance or give yourself a target number to get to, ask yourself, “Do I know what is required to make this happen, and is this a lasting and sustainable approach?”
Much Joy,
